AFTERCARE

Taking care of your tattoo is as important as the application.  take it seriously or infection and loss of ink is more likely to  occur.  It is good to note however, infection may occur even if you follow these instructions perfectly since there is no guarantee that a bug won't fly onto your tattoo and shit all over it or a spec of dust containing harmful bacteria embeds itself in the right spot to thrive and multiply quickly.  there are too many variables to protect from.  so, the best we can do is keep it clean before, during, and after the application of your tattoo.  we rely heavily on your body's ability to ward off things  like harmful bacteria.  Drink plenty of water and eat protein.  This is good for healing millions of puncture wounds.  follow these instructions to greatly increase your chances of healing successfully.

-remove bandage 2-3 hours after you leave the shop

-immediately wash your hands with Dial Gold antibacterial soap then wash your tattoo with the antibacterial soap. wash with warm water and be sure to bring the soap to a lather

-pat your tattoo dry with clean paper towels. allow your skin to air dry even longer (10 min or so)

-with clean hands apply a super thin layer of any of the following ointments: a+d ointment, Aquaphor, unrefined coconut oil (as long as it isn't the jar you use for cooking).  after applying the ointment pat the excess off with a clean paper towel

-repeat this process 3 times per day until you see flaking begin

-switch to normal soap and lotion or continue using coconut oil if that is part of your normal skin care routine

-this is about the stage of healing when your tattoo will likely itch like a sonuvabitch.  don't scratch it.  have some willpower!  this will continue until the flaking is complete, usually 1-2 weeks.  total healing time is usually. 2-3 weeks
